Years ago, having experience or a job in tech meant that you rarely needed to watch your back when it came to layoffs. However, in recent years, the tech industry has had some of the biggest layoffs compared to other industries. According to Layoffs.fyi, there have been over 84,000 layoffs in 2024 alone at more than 290 tech companies! Let's dive into what is causing this and how KRUTSCH has avoided this problem.

Why There Are So Many Tech Layoffs

When asking current tech employees why there are so many tech layoffs, most people's initial thought is AI. Although AI is getting smarter everyday, it is not as advanced as you may think. Experts estimate another 5-10 years before AI can take over even basic jobs. Another guess is that companies are in need of cutting costs, but the economy has been doing well lately. So what could it be?

Companies are now realizing that they do not need as many people to get things done effectively. A smaller, leaner team makes work get done faster and better. Hiring for efficiency is the easiest way to not have to layoff people in the future. It is much better to take time to hire a super skilled individual than quickly hire a lot of people to put in small-task positions.

How KRUTSCH Has Avoided Tech Sector Layoffs

Here at KRUTSCH, we are ahead of the game. We have ensured maximum efficiency with our small dedicated team. Although our team is small, we have released a generous catalog of products and apps in recent years. Let's dive into some of our most recent product launches and case studies.

Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation (MHIF) Redo Tav

Our team was approached by MHIF, once again, to build the Redo Tav mobile app, which would complete the suite of apps previously designed and built by KRUTSCH. The goal of MHIF was to improve efficiency and accuracy in Redo TAV procedures through utilizing systemic CT analysis.

Because of our previous work with MHIF, it was important that Redo Tav fit in with the existing MHIF apps. However, the design was iterated to incorporate unique features like CT Planning and Procedure Quick Guide. With the existing visual language, we built out high fidelity screens in Figma that were then prototyped to walk users through what their experience would be when going through all the steps of CT Planning and reviewing their risk assessment and summary report.

To stay true to the suite of MHIF apps, user navigation in Redo TAV emphasizes tap gestures, and it provides offline operability for clinicians to assess coronary risk for valve replacement patients.

Redo TAV is now supported by a relational database managed via the cloud by MHIF, enabling access to a comprehensive content repository for clinicians.

Parade of Homes

Housing First Minnesota was disappointed with the work on their precious app and felt as though it did not do the Parade of Homes brand justice because of features that didn't work. Because of this, the app had to be pulled from the app stores and users no longer had a guidebook to help plan their tours. This is where KRUTSCH came in.

KRUTSCH set out to resolve the issues with the previous app, and to give users the features that were lacking. All of this was done while staying true to the Parade of Homes brand and legacy.

We then outlined the workflow for the new apps with the features end users and Housing First Minnesota wanted. This led us to wireframes, where the context would live was mapped out on the screen. After this, we moved on to visual design.

The new website and mobile apps offer an intuitive mobile experience with key features previously lacking. The launch fulfills Housing First Minnesota's wish list, bringing their brand into the digital realm. The app tracking provides detailed insight into tour participants, with their permission. This empowers Housing First Minnesota and their builders with key metrics on participants' desires and housing trends. The new digital experience enhances user interaction and provides valuable data for the organization and its stakeholders.

Why KRUTSCH is Different From Other Tech Companies

At KRUTSCH, we have never had a layoff issue, because we take preventative measures. By hiring intelligent, hardworking creatives we are easily able to get even the most difficult job done properly. Meanwhile, other companies that over-hired, are laying off people because they aren't "efficient." Our work-life balance consisting of a 4-day work weeks allows our employees to stay energized in the office, creating a drive and motivation to get things done.

Since the year began, we have been working on over a half-dozen apps that will be released in the upcoming months. Because of our well-organized team, it is no wonder we have produced 18 patents and have a 90% client re-engagement rate.
